Hello, I live in UK and I'm not sure whether this is a good upgrade. Please suggest a sub for any (especially the mobo), if you know one, and if the power supply is enough to power the comp and 2 gfxs. Do I a liquid cooling system? Thanks. Case: Gigabyte 3D Aurora (already using). Now named Sumo I think. CPU: Intel Q9550 Core 2 Quad Proccessor - 2.83 GHz,12MB L2 Cache,1333MHz. Motherboard: XFX nForce 780i SLI Bus Speed: 1333 MHz or Gigabyte X38 (Which is better?) Graphics Card: XFX NVIDIA 8800GT (already using). Also planning to buy another one. RAM: Corsair - TWIN2X4096-6400C5 4 GB : 800Mz or Kingston KVR 800Mz HyperX DDR2 4GB (not sure, if there are better choices, please inform) Power Supply: OCZ StealthXStream 600 Watt Gamers Power Supply Unit. I'll be running them on an XP 32-bit, so I dont think I'll need the 4 GB.. Thanks again.
hi you will have to go with the 780I Motherboard because your going to be running two Nvidia graphics cards in SLI configuration the Gigabytye x38 motherboard don't support SLI only crossfire because of the Intel chipset but there are ways around that you can get chipset driver hacks so the PCI-Express x16 controller supports both SLI and Crossfire, but wouldn't recommend messing around with it. I would also upgrade the power supply unit to 800W. I think 600w is way to low. when built I would also keep an eye on the northbridge and southbridge temps, because Nvidia chipsets do run pretty hot. And liquid cooling is optional, for the lower temps liquid cooling is the way to go but if you can't afford it just invest in heatsinks. A good cpu heatsink I would recommened is Thermalright Ultra 120A but watch out might not fit your case.
Actually I've looked at different components now, I hope theyre better. Here they are: PSU: OCZ GameXStream 850W. Graphics Card: XFX GeForce 8800GT Alpha Dog 1GB Mobo: Asus P6T Deluxe V2 X58 Processor: Intel Core i7 920 Quad CPU 4 x 2.66ghz RAM: OCZ Intel i7 3GB DDR3 PC3-12800 (1600MHz) Tri-Channel -I already have the 8800gt 512mb, if I add this to it, will it work fine using the SLI? -Is the PSU strong enough to power up the comp? One more question, which is better the XFX GTS 250 512MB or the 8800gt 1GB and can I SLI both?
Hi, that setup is a good choice, The Intel X58 motherboard supports both SLI and Crossfire. And yes 8800gt 1gb will work in SLI with your current card. Your power supply is efficent enough to power your system with both graphics cards installed. The better card is the GTS 250 because it has more processing cores and higher core clock speed, a GTS 250 is basically a 9800gt just renamed and yes that supports SLI config. Personally I would scrap both of them cards and go for an ATI 4870 or 4890.
Hi, thanks for answering me. The reason I'm getting an SLI is I dont want to get rid of my 8800gt since it's pretty new and still in good shape. What about if I get the GTX 260, will that work with my 8800? Thanks again!
To use SLI, all cards need to be identical to each other. So to get SLI with the 8800GT, you'll need another 8800GT (I'm not sure if the 8800GT even supports SLI though).
