howdy pardners. so heres the scoop, im building a completely custom case for my pc, and i want to install some new electrical devices. first i am going to turn my single power LED into 2 rows of 6 LEDs, 12 in all. Next, I am going to install 5 MORE cooling fans so that there will be some on each side and the top to provide adequate airflow. I also have several more hardware devices to add. another 80gb hdd, a floppy/zip d, and another dvd r/rw d. these are going to be added to my current dvd r/rw d and a single 100gb hdd. So, what i need to know is what are the proper steps i need to take before i just plug it all in and fry my computers power supply. am i going to need to compensate for any loss in power? do i need to use resistors or any other parts? and hypothetically, if i were to simply run all of the new devices off of its own direct power line (separate from the computer itself; meaning i would have to turn this on as well when i turn the computer on) how would iu go about doing so? sorry if this is a boring or stupid post to anyone, but 'when in doubt, ask the guys online' always seems to provide the best correct answer. so, thanks in advance and any help would be greatly appreciated
First of all you will new a BIG Power supply, and not a cheap one.. 5 fans is a little overkill don't you think. Just make sure YOU test everything first before installing..
yeah, i know, its total overkill. its all in good fun though, i guess. just messin around with old hardware i got lying around. is there a better way than buying a new power supply? i dont want to have to put any money into it unless i have to. its more for novelty ya know? not so much for anything else
You will need to understand the theory of wiring LEDs in serial vs parallel as they are diodes they drop .7 of a volt each and if you dont work it out in advance it may be a bit of a non-event LED Circuitry tutorial: how to hook up LEDs.
