    Hi Guys,
I moved the Asus motherboard and drives from an old Asus Case to a new one and for some reason the PC wont power up. I have a green LED on the motherboard that shines when plugged in but when I press the power button nothing happens whatsoever. I also tried the power button from the original machine but it wont power up. I also tried unplugging all drive connections but no luck. Any ideas please? Power supply was working fine on orig machine yesterday.
    Thanks

disconnect the power switch from the motherboards control panel and use a flat head screw driver to short the two power switch pin. If it still won't power on remove the motherboard from the case and try again. also make sure all componenets, cpu, ram, graphics card and seated properly, this will rule out any shorts.

Thx. When u say short u mean unplug the pc, remove the power 2 pin connector and put a flathead screw driver across the pins for the 2pin power connector?
Im assuming the PC isnt plugged in when I short the 2 pins?
    Thanks

no keep the pc powered so you see the green ligh on the motherboard. and yes remove the power switch from the 2 power switch pins on the motherboard and use a flat head screw driver to short the two pins. this will rule out the power switch.

Thanks for the tip. No joy unfortunately. PC wont power up at all. Only the green LED on the board is lit
The external power led next to the user power button doesnt even light up. Strange one. Does the lit LED on the motherboard indicate that the power supply is ok?

green L.E.D on the board indicates the board is getting power, it's just sat in standby mode waiting for the user to hit the power button for it to power on. But in your case that doesn't work. It could still be power supply unit, might now have enough power to power the system on but just let it sit in standby mode. so you could try another psu if u have one spare. Have you tried taking the motherboard out of the case? also re-seated all mentioned in the above post?

    Hi,
Ya thanks, I did all the above. Clipped everything off the motherboard, removed the motherboard and connected everything up again.
    No joy unfortunately

Should the fan in the power supply itself work if plugged in separately/standalone?

you can try testing the power supply unit by using a paper clip by shorting the green wire/pin and any black wire/pin.
