I am my local computer geek, and a guy wants me to get data off of his laptop hard drive. Who knows what happened to rest of laptop. I recently purchased something to interface this laptop drive with my PC, but it is the wrong type of adapter.

So my question is, what adapter do I buy to accomplish this?

I think something like this might be correct: Newegg.com - SABRENT SBT-ESU25 Aluminum 2.5" USB 2.0 External Enclosure - External Enclosures

But im not sure, included is a picture of the Hard Drive, and its a Hitachi DK23CA-20

You've got the right idea but that enclosure doesn't come with an AC adapter.
You might consider something like the following:
    Newegg.com - AZiO ENC211SU31 Aluminum 2.5" Black eSATA & USB 2.0 External Enclosure - External Enclosures
    or
Newegg.com - Thermaltake BlacX N0028USU External Hard Drive SATA Enclosure Docking Station 2.5" & 3.5" USB 2.0 - External Enclosures
This one is a little more expensive then you might like but the nice bonus is that you can use it for both 2.5 and 3.5" HDD for any future projects/fixes.

But those two enclosures have internal spec support of SATA, I'm fairly certain that the device is ATA, not SATA? Correct?

Thank you for the response however, truely.

Good call man, you are definitely correct. Maybe this one, it seems to receive power via USB and would also seem to support IDE which I believe is the same as ATA.
