I've used Windows 7 for a while, and have to admit that it's much better than Vista in both terms of performance and usability. It's still slow compared to XP, but that's normal with the new features when keeping the history of Microsoft in mind :).

The only feature that I'm missing is the option to use multiple desktops. Something useful that Mac OS X has for over a year, and most Linux distributions for a very long time.

In a general statement, it feels more lean than Vista. In addition, i've never encountered a single problem/error yet. Bootup feels much faster.
I feel Windows 7 utilizes CPU and RAM more effectively than Vista. But that's just an opinion.

Running Windows 7 Ultimate with 4GB DDR3 and Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600

    Hi All,
    Newbie here.

I don't have a technical bone in my body, but I am great at following instructions.
I put Win 7 32bit disk in and just pressed the tit, loaded like a dream.

Then found out my PC could support 64bit, so put the 64bit disk in pressed the tit wallah, no problems.

Having great fun finding out how everything works.

Performance wise, no. I can't tell if my Windows 7 x64 is outperforming my Windows XP x64, but i know that it runs fast and is very supportive of all programs, as is XP. Windows 7 does recommend a higher minimum of RAM (1GB for x86 and 2GB for 2GB) than that of XP (512mb), so this already tells you that W7 is a bit heavy when it comes to services even though it is much leaner than Vista. However, from my experience so far, i never had any frozen programs or error reports or glitches from any program whatsoever, so far (hope i don't jinx myself). Windows XP, from my experience, has a bunch of these issues so W7 takes care of this.
Bottom line-if your happy with XP-stick with it. If you'd like to check out 7, install it and see for yourself.

Appearance: The glass theme in W7, in my opinion, is much cooler than XP's balloon styled theme. Another reason why you would like to switch.

These are very general statements and it is really up to the user to decide whats best for them. I'm extremely happy with my Windows 7 Ultimate x64 .
