I have a SPPHIRE HD 3870 and I think it will hold for another 2 years running games at least MEDIUM.

    What about you?

This is really in the wrong section, but I'll answer it anyways.

I have an EVGA GTS 250 1GB that will hopefully last me up until the next gen of nvidia cards come out.

It depends on how much more advanced gaming graphics will become in the coming years. One thing to pay attention to is the new directx 11. new cards are now supporting it.

just an example of what i mean - back in 2001 i bought a pc with a geforce 2 mx card - and it lasted me all the way up to 2006. of course, some games i had to play on very low but my point is, it lasted 5 years.

Definitely do, no doubt about that. But 10 has MUCH more improvement in terms of lighting and other aspects which make current games look outstanding.
