Hi there. I am new to hardware, i wanna build a computer for my experiments, that can run Windows Xp at least. AS i cant afford expensive PC for my Electrical experiments, so i decided to make one for myself by collecting the standalone parts from USED SHOPS. First thing in making computers is Motherboard, so i was thinking what to look for? Is there any thing i need to look into old Motherboards (ofcourse they will be cheap and easily available on USED SHOPS) that can run Windows Xp? Some guidelines on buying the Motherboard please?
According to this page, you'll need a: PC with 300 megahertz or higher processor clock speed recommended; 233 MHz minimum required (single or dual processor system);* Intel Pentium/Celeron family, or AMD K6/Athlon/Duron family, or compatible processor recommended 128 megabytes (MB) of RAM or higher recommended (64 MB minimum supported; may limit performance and some features) I recommend you pick out a motherboard with, at least, a 478 socket or a LGA775 socket that support Pentium 4 processors. I would also recommend that you get yourself at least 256MB of memory.
BTW i am interested in this Motherboard BIOSTAR :: G41-M7 :: Specification Its 80$. Is it worth the price? BTW its a New Piece, not a used one. One more thing i wanna know is , i saw one CPU, 3.40GHZ, Pentium 4, LGA775 compatible, with FAN, for 50$. Is it worth the price. BTW CPU is used, not the new one.
That motherboard is a rip off $80 is way to much, it's very limited doesn't have anything going for it, 2 phase powers lol, no lower rdson mosfets, no raid controller. no dual bios. systme bus is pretty low 1333mhz and doesn't state wether the pci-express x16 slot is 2.0 (4gb/s) bus frequency. I think you will get a much better board for $80 also a quality brand such as EVGA or Gigabyte. even Asrock are not bad for the money. even this board is better and not as much money. Agreed. Too much and doesn't offer a lot. I do, however, think this is a much better motherboard than the one you (BoBBYI986) offered. Being that its an ASUS, a very well trusted comp., you can't go wrong with it at $84 (only $10 more than the ASRock and has higher specs). No. Thats a pretty good deal, provided the fan and CPU and in good, working condition. The closest thing you can get to a new CPU for $50 is an Intel Celeron. You want to stay away from those.
There is not much difference between the Asrock and the Asus motherboard they both similar in spec. Me personally I stay clear of Asus because of the amount of problems I've had with their hardware but everybody has their own opinions.
Asus is one of the premier motherboard manufacturers, and at this current time mostly all propietary brand computers use their boards. just my $.02
