Need advice for replacing CPU.

    Hello, i have a PC it's already 3 years old and i am not a real professional and nor advanced modder in PC's so i need some advice if it's good what i am about to do. So this is inside my pc :p :

    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Cpu 6300 @ 1.86GHz 1,87 GHz
    Memory: 2046MB RAM
    Video Card: nVidia GeForce 9500 GT 1 GB PCI E 2.0
    Sound Card: SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC
    Operating System: Windows Vistaâ„¢ Home Premium SP2

    Now, i know it's a really bad PC but i need to do some tuning :D, and i am going to. But i need an advice if i can replace my Intel Core2 with an Intel i7 920? Please reply i really appriciate it! Thank you, Apple!

    sad news: no. The Core 2's use the LGA775 socket or something. At least, they do not use the i7's 1xxx socket. So, if you want to go for a i5,i7 CPU, you'll have to change your motherboard.

    If you really want a quad core CPU anyway and don't want to buy a new motherboard, then buy a Core 2 Quad, but that's something I think would be a waste of money.

    What kind of motherboard do you have now? maybe the current one doesn't support a quad core CPU - that can happen too and then you're gonna have to buy a new motherboard in order to upgrade thoughtfully.
