Hi today i bought 500GB sata hard disk and connected to my computer(Already i have an 80 GB IDE connected with XP installed). After connecting i could not view the hard disk in the My Computer, but it has been detected in BIOS. So i went to Computer Management tool and found that this new harddisk is not initialized so i started to initialize and the wizard ends up stating this new disk as a "Simple Volume". I am not sure whether what i did is correct or not. Please advice me if i made any mistake in this. Also the problem is i am unable to partition the Simple Volume disk.

If it is IDE hard disk i would have removed the jumper from it and it would have been treated as a slave. So first i want to know whether i should add the new hard disk as a master or slave. For now when the system starts up it shows the hard disk (new) as secondary.

You will need sata drivers for that motherboard in order to make it work.. You will have to slipstream a setup cd or put your sata drivers on a floppy disk.
