Hello there. I'm writing out of desperation at this point, as my current computer problems have me completely baffled as to what might even be the basic cause--something I can usually figure out myself.

It started this morning--this very audible clicking noise from within my computer tower case. It tends to come to a slower, sort of stuttering sound at times but it's mostly that annoying clicking most of the time. Occasionally--although it's rare--the sound stops, then starts up again after about 3-5 seconds.

I posted this issue in this forum because I suspect it may have something to do with the CPU just based off the fact the computer processing has gone from its former lightning fast state to its current super slow one. I timed the startup and it currently takes about a 40 minutes to start-up, load the OS, and have it up and running...and that's in SAFE MODE!! It used to do all of that in under 2 minutes.

I have no further info. except the general computer and OS details which you will find at the end of this post. I've run "Start-Up Repair," tried Safe Mode, attempted to boot from back-up discs, and tried "System Restore," all to no avail. As for recent activities, downloads, or new hardware--none. At least nothing out of the ordinary. This started up randomly while I was asleep. The noise is actually what woke me up.

    PC Details:

    E-Machines ET1331G-03w
    AMD Athlon II X2 235e Dual-Core Processor
    NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE Integrated
    DVD Super Multi-Drive
    750 GB HDD
    6 GB DDR2 Memory

    Operating System:

    Windows 7 Professional 64 bit

Hmm, that's all I could provide for now since I'm unable to even start-up anymore (it takes longer every time I attempt it). If more information is required, please let me know and I'll see what I can do.

I'm really starting to regret not getting a better warranty on this thing. I'm pretty sure the basic one has run out considering I've had it since December of last year and those are usually good for up to 6 months.

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your time.

Most noises from a computer will be from either the hard drive/Power supply or a DVD/cd rom drive..

A clicking sound could mean the hard drive is going bad. A CD/DVD rom will only produce noise when accessed.

The sound may come from your HDD, CD/DVD rom, processor or from your SMPS.
