A friend brought over his computer that he told me was having a problem. The problem was that it would turn off in either Safe mode or Normal mode when he was using it. I discovered that it had a few viruses/adware on it and removed them. I ran System File Checker (SFC) and it found no problems. All startup programs were disabled and all non Microsoft services were disabled. I installed the latest updates. After I had removed all the viruses/adware the computer would still turn off in either Safe mode or Normal mode with out any warning. It did not do a shutdown when it turned off by itself. It just turned off. This started to happen more frequently as I was testing it. For some unknown reason if I attempted to use Spybot Search and Destroy, in Normal mode, the computer would immediately turn off. Last night I turned off the computer. Today I attempted to turn on the computer. Now what happens is the computer will not turn off. That is the power supply fan is running and the cpu fan is running when I turn it on but I get no post. It uses Vista and Vista now never comes up. There used to be a light that came on the front of the computer when the computer worked. That light now never comes on. Also I noticed that when the computer was working the cpu fan was speeding up and slowing down all the time. So does this computer have a bad motherboard or is the power supply bad?
