Hi, I just got an external DVD burner - the LG GE20LU10, which is Drive F on my computer. Installed the software (CyberLink PowerDVD and Nero 7 Essentials) and the firmware. But when I insert a blank Verbatim DVD+R into the drive, PowerDVD tells me "No disc in drive F:" (and I have tried using different blank DVD+Rs). And if I try to open Drive F with Windows Explorer, I get the error message "F:\ is not accessible. Incorrect function." I get the same error messages when I insert a blank CD into the drive. A few other things that might be relevant: 1. I don't think my problem is caused by power issues. Because my external DVD burner has an external power supply. Just to be sure, I connected the drive to a USB port at the back of the computer (instead of a USB hub), and still have the same problems. 2. When I insert a commercial DVD, it does detect the commercial DVD, and can play it. Can someone help me troubleshoot this? By the way, the store where I bought the hardware has a 7-day exchange policy, so if it is a hardware problem I can exchange for a working one. Thanks for your help. P.S. Someone recommended to me this Microsoft diagnostic tool http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060 But I'm on Windows XP SP2, and need to update to SP3 to use the diagnostic tool. I am kinda reluctant to update to SP3 unless absolutely necessary (because SP2 works for me and "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" - I fear the blue screen of death). Any alternatives? Or should I bite the bullet and update to SP3?
Probably hardware problem. Try to use another USB cable, sometimes error occur when the USB Cable lost connection. If, not, it's better to exchange the hardware. I have used Windows XP SP2 and still working until now. no need to update to SP3.
Have you tried a different burning software ? I use a external dvd burner as well, But I use Ashampoo burning Studio for All my needs.. You might try it instead..
