    Hi Forum...

This problem is stressing me out no end! A dead (friends) system came to my house... I suspected PSU, replaced that. Moved onto MB, replaced that - same symptoms. Moved onto CPU, replaced that... Nothing. Swapped out the MB for (another) new replacement thinking I got a dud from the shop. Same thing... So I have tried both new & old CPU's in all MB's, 3 different PSU's (550w, 2 x 700w)... nothing!!! Both in and out of the case, cleared BIOS (jumpers & removing battery), removed graphics card (tried with onboard), played around with the RAM etc... absolutly No Joy. Tried powering up by shorting front panel pwr pins - same result. All I get is CPU cooling fan & chassis cooling fan spinning - no matter what combination of MB/CPU/PSU I try!! it's driving me nuts. I refuse to believe I have been unlucky and bought faulty new components... what am I missing? Thanx.

    Simon

What was it doing in the first place ? How far will it run ? Will it boot ? Have you checked for a SHORT somewhere ? Also check the IDE cables ...Maybe the case is not grounded..

Thanks Ghostman 1... No boot, not even POST. The only sign of life is the CPU cooling fan and chassis cooling fan (and obviously PSU fan). All drives are SATA, so no IDE cables to check, but it's not even getting that far.. no HDD spinup. Have tried all combo's both in and OUT of the case (to eliminate a SHORT as the cause)

Check your ram to see if they are bad, What are the specks of this Motherboard ? Make and model please ??? You seem to have a bad conflict somewhere.. Just have to narrow it down.

Thanks Ghostman... Brand new Kingston DDR3 RAM... Well it's all sorted. I was going to save my self the emabarrassment of letting you all know of the "problem" - it was me... because this was a friends machine, I had it hooked up to a TV (not a PC monitor) via VGA, the red light was on the TV (standby mode). I was expecting it to come out of standby when I powered the PC on... of coarse it didn't (only monitors do that) - Extremely embarrassing!!! Once I turned on the TV - all was revealed. It was absolutley driving me NUTS!!!! Apart from it being some cyber-demon, I didn't know what else it could've been.... :) My wife thought it was extremely funny! It's always the simple things that get you!!! Simon :)
