Upgrade Advice .....DellXPS1530

    friends ,
    This is anand here.... I want to upgrade my lappy so that i can run x86-64 bit OSes.
    I bought my lappy back in 2008. My lappy configuration is as follows ...

    Operating System
    MS Windows XP Professional 32-bit SP3
    CPU
    Intel Mobile Core 2 Duo T5850 @ 2.16GHz
    Merom 65nm Technology
    RAM
    3.0GB Dual-Channel DDR2 @ 332MHz (5-5-5-15)
    Motherboard
    Dell Inc. 0D501F (Microprocessor)
    Graphics
    Default Monitor @ 1280x800
    256MB GeForce 8600M GT (Dell)
    Hard Drives
    313GB Seagate ST9320325AS (SATA)
    Optical Drives
    TEAC DVD+-RW DVW28SLC
    ELBY CLONEDRIVE SCSI CdRom Device
    Audio
    SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC



    what kind of hardware upgrade is possible in order to run 64 bit OSes (windows and linux environment)

    Please consider my request .......

    You would have to swap out the motherboard in order to run 64 bit systems, and that would probably cost just as mush as it would just to buy a new laptop...

    I've done a little research, and it looks like you are already capable of running a 64bit OS (the core 2 duo T5850 supports EM64T or x64 architecture). The problem is that to utilize it fully (to take full advantage of what you have with it), you'll need at least 4GB of RAM. I would suggest upgrading the RAM to 4 gigs, and then installing the 64 bit OS.
