I have a dell inspiron 530, which originally had 2gb RAM (2x1) in 2 of the 4 slots. I purchased some RAM which was supposedly compatible with it (checked with the manufacturer) for a 2gb (2x1) upgrade. But when i turn it on it just gives 2 beeps and the fans on full power but no monitor output. So i try it with the original RAM only and exactly the same problem so i thought maybe i damaged them all somehow with static discharge/ the new ones werent compatiable. I then got a 100% guarenteed compatiable 2x1gb kit from crucial.com thinking it was a problem with the RAM, and an anti-static bracelet for good measure, but i get exactly the same 2 beeps on power up. Ive been searching for days and have tried: making sure RAM is properly seated. taking out the motherboard battery. Clearing the CMOS. Using every peice of RAM individually. maybe some other stuff i cant remmeber right now any help is appreciated this is driving me nuts. Is it possible the computer is dead for good???
According to the Dell Inspiron 530 manual i found on Dell's website, the 2 beeps indicate faulty memory. It also read that if the problem persists after switching the memory from slot to slot then you should contact Dell.
Bummer. I would say download Memtest and install the program onto a USB flash drive or floppy to check for memory errors but since you have no monitor output its pretty useless. Try RAM from a friend if you can and see if it boots up.
dude.. try this out. remove all pheriparals including Hard disc..do a power drain. check the functionality of the monitor..it may be monitor issue. try weather its completing POST with any one of the RAM module.
It could be you received a faulty batch of RAM from crucial. Have you contacted their RMA department for a replacement? 2 beeps on boot can also indicate a parity error or that the memory isn't seated properly. Try reseating the RAM and don't be afraid to use firm pressure.
I think that your computer still lives, but it's not gonna live to much time from now on. These are signs of fatigue, and your warranty has expired! That's ok cause these computers have been made to resist only in your warranty , not after that. It happends to everbody.
Try reseating your RAM again. Like I mentioned in my previous post, good firm pressure is often needed.
