I booted one of these computers that my cousin gave me and it said something is wrong with the memory before booting to windows. I see 4 cards in the memory slots. Would just one of them cause this error or are all the memory cards bad? I can't get to the windows screen at all. The comptuer is a dell powerdge 600sc. I found a replacement memory card if that is the problem located at Computer Memory, Laptop Batteries - Kahlon.com
Hi, The error could come from 1 bad stick of ram or multiple sticks of ram with errors. What you can try to do is take out all of the RAM except for one stick and then try to boot. If it works, set that stick aside and try the next stick of Ram in the same slot. If one of the sticks of ram will not boot, that could be the bad one. If all of the sticks of ram work in the first ram slot, then test with the second slot, then third, etc because it could be a bad RAM slot on the motherboard as well. You can also try running the Dell diagnostic tools as well, which you can download from support.dell.com for your specific computer. On some versions of their software, it can tell you which stick of RAM has gone bad.
2 beeps on boot usually indicates a parity or bad RAM seating issue. If that is what you are getting, then did following Wildcard's suggestions help?
