I have only 2,99 usuable of 4 gb on my toshiba satellite l500 and I have ati radeon video card with 512 dedicated memory. I verified and my msconfig setting for maximum memory is unchecked, in the resource monitor it appear as hardware reserved 1035 mb, and in the video card properties: dedicated mem 512 mb, shared system mem 1274 mb. I have looked in bios, it recognise all 4 gb memory, but I dont have a setting for controlling the memory.

    Thanks

  2. Your problem doesn't have to do anything with your RAM sticks, or mobo for that matter. It's your OS. Windows 7 32bit is only capable of using a certain amount of your actual RAM, in your case 2.99GB instead of the full 4GB you have installed. The most common max. RAM Windows 7 32bit can use is 3.5GB or 3GB. You'll have to upgrade to Windows 7 64-bit to utilize all of your RAM.

Sounds more like the amount of memory that the OS is hogging for itself. All 4 gigs are being used, but only 2.99 are avaliable cuz windows is using the other 1.1: 32 bit Operating systems can use a maximum of 4 gigs. After the 4 gig mark is when you need to upgrade to 64 bit.
