I've saved enough to buy my first desktop in years! Unfortunaly, I'm not that well informed when it comes to hardware... so here I am, asking your help if this setup will fit together to make sure I don't waste my money because I didn't buy the right motherboard (for example) * Sound Card - 1 x PCI Express x1 and 4-pin independent power supply * Video card: 2 of these: (I want to connect 3 monitors) - 2 x PCI Express 2.0 x16 * CPU - LGA 1155 socket * Motherboard * Case - I understand this only needs to be ATX-compatible? * Memory * Storage - SATA II? * Power supply what I'm concerned about is the 4-pin sound card independent power supply, SSD SATA II connector and sufficient PCI Express slots for video and sound cards. Thanks!
Make sure you get a motherboard that allows you to utilize x16 pci-e speeds when you crossfire/sli. You might want to upgrade to a SATA 3 hdd and make sure the motherboard supports it as well. Also, make sure the mb is suited up with usb 3.0. The form factor of your case depends on the form factor of your motherboard. You can get a micro atx case, but you wont fit an atx mb in there. However, you can get a micro atx motherboard and fit it into a atx case (if the specs specify so). Enlighten me on this independent psu..
Hello scorps65, thanks for your answer. Somebody helped me out already in http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/308719-31-hardware-newbie-setup I'll not be using SLI since it's not supported for linux (see the link above), The independent psu for the sound card is a 4-pin molex explained here: http://techgage.com/article/using_the_asus_xonar_essence_stx_under_linux/ Again, thanks.
