Hello, i put together a new pc yesterday, and I get stranegly high CPU temperature. It idles at atleast 40 degrees and when i start prime95 it goes up to 95 degrees. I check temperatures with real temp, bios also shows high temperature. The motherboard is Asus P67 Sabertooth 1155, cooler is stock, i tried to reinstall it, nothing seems to help.

Otherwise computer works fine, prime causes no error, but i am wondering now, are the sensors lying or will I damage my cpu with it?

Thanks for help in advance. Bye.

Well, Prime95 will drastically drive the temp of your CPU up because of all the tests. 40 degrees is normal for idle temp, even though it could be better. What about when you play games?

it is still more than 80. One more thing, even at idle temperature is lke 48 and in next second it is 38 already and it keeps doing "changes" like that.

In that case, I would definitely re-apply some thermal paste. Go here and purchase yourself just that. You need to remove the old thermal paste from both the heatsink and CPU head before applying a thin coat of the new paste onto the CPU head only. This usually solves the issue, but this along with getting a better heatsink (copper based) will definitely solve your problem. Clean out any dust inside the case as well as the CPU fan.

You don't need to go out and purchase a heatsink. Try the applying new thermal paste first, you won't be disappointed.

Maybe your motherboard sensors have gone bad or you might need another PSU (pray you don't). Is the CPU fan running at 100%?
