I am trying to put together a computer system, I want to know if the following motherboard and ram are compatible. Asus M4A88TD-V EVO (M4A88TD-V EVO/USB3) and G.SKILL 3x2GB (6GB) PC3-12800(F3-12800CL9T-6GBNQ) Features PC3-12800 (1600MHz) Latency 9-9-9-24-2N Tested and Verified Specifications Size 6GB (3 x 2GB) Memory Type PC3-12800 DDR3 Speed 1600 MHz Timings 9-9-9-24-2N Voltage 1.5 Volts Pins 240 Pin Dimm Unbuffered ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ When I check the motherboard compatibility at asus: http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/AMD_AM3/M4A88TDV_EVOUSB3/#MSL It says that the following is compatible: G.SKILL F3-12800CL9T-6GBNQ(XMP) 6144MB(Kit of 3) DS - - 9-9-9-24 1.5V~1.6V DIMM socket support 1, 2, and 3 When I wanted to buy these 2 items at the store though, they said they wouldn't work together. But they should work right??
The RAM you chose and the compatible RAM types are identical, so I can't see why it wouldn't be compatible.
I talked to them again, and they said the reason they said it wouldnt work is because the motherboard only supports 1333 mhz (without overclocking), and the speed of the RAM is 1800 mhz. I am not interested in overclocking right now -- but it is my understanding that if I put 1800 mhz ram into the motherboard, the RAM will just run at 1333 mhz without any problems. Is that correct? I also found this on sale: Patriot Extreme Performance Sector 5 G Series DDR3 8GB (2 x 4GB) PC3-10666 PGV38G1333ELK Size 8GB (2 x 4GB) Memory Type PC3-10666 DDR3 SDRAM Speed 1333MHz Timings 9-9-9-24 Voltage 1.65V Pins 240 Pin Dimm Unbuffered Heatspeader Lightweight aluminum heat-dispersing shields It isnt specifically listed on the APV, but it should work also right? Thanks!
