    Hi,

I am going to replace my old LG CRT (17") with an LCD. After reading a number of reviews, I have finally narrowed my search into two options, first one is ViewSonic VX2450WM-LED (24", TN panel, 5 ms, LED backlighting, DCR 20 million:1, static 1000:1, D-sub and DVI-D). In amazon, newegg and other various sties, it has been reviewed very positively by the users. The other one is Dell UltraSharp U2311h (23", IPS panel, 8 ms, CCFL backlighting, DCR 10000:1, static 1000:1, D-sub, DVI-D and DisplayPort) which also been reviewed very positively by many sites.

It will be primarily used for gaming and watching HD movies.

My current graphics card is Redeon HD 4870 but I will buy ASUS GTX560 Ti DirectCU II TOP very shortly and my operating system is Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.

Please help me to choose the best monitor for my purpose.

between the two i would choose the viewsonic.
the specs between the two are almost relatively the same.
because you said gaming and watching hd movies the lcd response time is important.
honestly 5ms is somewhat high vs the even higher 8ms the dell was advertising.
    i have a 24in myself gateway fhd2401. http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2339615,00.asp
my purchase was solely on getting the lowest response time with other good attributes.
i spent like $500 around 2 years ago, but overall i've been pleased with this lcd.
anyways, for what you want i would suggest going to the 2ms response time if you can budget it.

Personally ever since I've gotten my first Samsung I've not had one issue. Top quality.
Every time someone mentions buying an LG I cringe.
I currently have a Samsung"24 LCD SyncMaster that Hasn't had one issue in the last 4 years.
Unless I am greatly sold elsewhere, my next will also be a Samsung.

*Edit* Whatever you get, do not be sold on crazy low prices. From what I have seen, especially in monitors, you completely do get-what-you-pay-for. Too many times I've seen people pay low low prices only to have them go out in a month or so.

Think this one might be my next :] http://www.samsung.com/us/computer/monitors/LT24A550ND/ZA-buy

The dell is an IPS pannel which is intended for professional graphics use. It will have a better picture quality and better color match than the Viewsonic TN pannel. Though if you're only going to be gaming and watching movies you may not need those capabilities.
