all of the UPS units i own come with a software that estimates the battery run time based on the power load. The only way i know of to get a real time though is to pull the power cord or switch it off at the breaker.

The ups unit you bought should have come with a cd or dvd with software on it. if you install and run that software, it should give you some information about how much load you have on the ups. i.e. how many watts the equipment pluged into the ups is consuming. and an estimated amount of time that it will be able to run the equipment on battery power should your electricity service be interupted. however... those estimates are ussually very genorous to give you piece of mind that its going to work properly. the only way i know of to test the actual time it will run, is to have the equipment running as ussual, then unplug the powercord that goes from the ups into the wall outlet. Or go to your main power breaker/fuse box in your home and switch off the power going to the ups.

One thing to concider is, if you have a raid aray in your system the volumes could be corrupted by a power failure. so i recomend first using the software to determine if the ups is overloaded before doing the power cut test. If its overloaded it wont be able to run the equipment on battery power for any amount of time.
