Greetings. Hope I’m in the right place…
I have a Dell system purchased in 2001. Win 2000 with XP Office

After a month or so, the Internet explorer didn’t work…. perhaps because of new software “The Many Faces of Go”…. got the Web page can’t be displayed – server not found message. My IP connects (I think- because the little monitor icons on the task bar light up) but no bits are moving when I look at the properties.

Another computer was available, so it wasn’t a big deal (Ha!)
That 486 computer died last weekend, and we NEED email NOW.

After removing any programs that might be a problem…. Go, Photoshop and a few others…. I tried to use a winsock fix downloaded from the web

Still got the Web page can’t be displayed – server not found message
After many tries. I finally reinstalled Windows.

NOW my super graphics Dell monitor can only display 16 bit color and 600x800 pixels. No other choices are available. The system doesn’t even know that the monitor is a Dell. ?????????

Hope one of you can help!

You need to install the drivers for the video card, and possibly the chipset drivers for the computer.

    hi do50

can you remember which dell it was? you are in need of video card drivers for the system! go to your device manager and find out which card it is and then do a search for the drivers for it!

Wow! You people are fast! Thank you!
I tried using the cd that came in the bundle (that said it was for the monitor).... all I found was more or less how to plug it in.
Sadly, the Dell support has expired. But I'll head home now and try to find the drivers.
It's a Dell Dimension. Can't remember the number right now, but I'll have it tomorrow or tonight. -Do

If you install the right video card drivers your monitor will be recognised. Then you'll be able to set the refresh rate.
