hi, I find this hard to explain, but when playin games, it seems mostly in half life, cc:s, dod, when i move or look left to right the image becomes messed up, i try to take screen shots but it never shows up in them. I have edited a screen shot of ccs using paint to try and show what happens, its like strips of the image are out of time with other strips, and only effect objects close to the player. when u stop moving the image is fine, but when u move it becomes distroted in this way. please look at the door frame on the right in the pic, the stripe effect is over all object close to the player., but not ones far away. http://tinypic.com/elcv5 please does anyone know what this is? and how to fix it?, it really pisses me off, my system is as follows: amd 3000+ 64, x800 pro, 1 gig ram, an K8T Neo-FIS2R MB SATA 160 gig hhd i get about 50 fps in ccs, which i also thinks bad, but i had the same problem on my old setup it looks so ugly, the picture doesnt show its true badness in game but u get the idea i have covered everything i can think of, please help, thanks
I remember reading about an issue with newer cards and older FPS titles along these lines, and it's something to do with that the older FPS weren't designed with these newer GPU's in mind and it doesn't compensate for them very well, and can have some problems along these lines. Specifically, it was Half-Life and it's mods combined with newer ATi chips (including the 9500-9800 series).
As always try updating your graphics drivers and turn down any overclocks if you do oc. Edit: Or if as B says its something to do with the actual game then you might want to try and get a patch if there is any.
CS Source is relatively new, so it will be buggy. wait for a patch, install new drivers and try messing around with any advanced video options that may be available in CS
its not always the newest drivers that work the best. If the newest ones dont work out for you, try some of the older ones. I.E. the Cat 4.2's or somewhere around there. But first, try the most recently released drivers, 4.10s if Im not mistaken, downclock back to stock speeds, and try patching Source if there is a patch available yet. I wouldnt be suprised if there was...I mean, come on, it is steam after all....
Yeah CS Scource is new and has bugs in it. Also did you mess around with the FPS levels (frame rate per secound) You should have it set around 75-80 depending on the computer. Your system looks like it should handel 75-80 fps in the game if it is not then something is wrong. My comp 3.0ghz ht 1.5 GB RAM And so on ATI 9800 Pro 128mb and my system fps in game runs around 100-150 and dose it fine also. So your system should be fine. Hear put this in the console when you get into the game fps_max 80 and see what happens. If the picture gets better then leave it at that. (also if your ping gose up then you should bring the fps down to 60 and use the same fps_max command. If all that dose not work then their is something with the graphics card.
Yeah the 9800 Pro 128mb i like the most you can get my 100 fbs out of it with no problems but on the other hand the computer power dose help it. But for all you CS gamers out their with a 9800 Pro or higher you can get a fbs of 100-150 out of the card. Again use fbs_max 100 and that will set it to do 100. I have heard that you can get 150 out of it but i have only done that once and i started to overclock the card but got lines in the screen so i backed it down and went back to stock mode. Yeah set the cards up they can handle the fbs. Just watch for your ping if it gose let say 50 or more over what it should be for awile then turn the fbs down. But counter strike runs standerd the default at 75 fbs so if your cs is not doing the job and you have a good card up the fbs. Also as you up the fbs it helps how fast you will react in the game to things that happen.
just a note, its "fps_max <number>" in case you were confused. The lines might have something to do with your monitor and the v-sync settings but I doubt that would show up in a screen shot.
