hello, when you boot my system it runs perfectly fine for about 5 minutes, after that everything freezes, including the mouse, cap locks button, everything. It requires a hard restart to get it out of it. I have tried everything i can think of to determine what the problem is. I have reinstalled windows 4 times and no luck. I have all of my updated drivers and everything so i don't think it's that. My pc isn't overclocked or anything, in fact i restored to fail-safe default to make sure it didn't have anything to do with the cmos/bios. This makes me believe it is a hardware problem. What do you think i should check first and how should i go about doing it? any advice is welcome!

This is a hardware problem, First check all your fans.. It sounds like your processor is getting to hot... Open the case and look inside if this is a desktop, check all fans to make sure they are working.. Check fans and heat shield that they are not blocked or cluttered up with dust.

I've made sure all of my fans are running and my CPU stays at a consistent 30 degrees C. I have an aftermarket CPU cooler and I don't think the problem started until after I installed it. Not sure if it's a coincidence or something with the cooler is wrong.

    Hi,

I would try checking the RAM next. Bad ram can cause lockups, blue screen errors, and random reboots of the computer. You can try running memtest86+ (can download for free) for a few hours to see if it returns any errors. If it does return errors, it means at least some of the ram is bad. Another method you can try is to boot with just a single stick of RAM installed in the computer. If it boots and runs with no problems, set that stick of ram aside and try the next one. You can also try moving the single stick of ram to different ram slots to see if any of the slots are bad as well. If that doesnt work, try doing a minimal boot of the computer. Try booting with just the cpu, 1 stick of ram, and video going. When you are sure that works, start connecting peripherals 1 at a time to see where it fails.

Do you still have the old cooler ? you could try and put back the old and see if that would make any difference.. These kinds of hardware problems can be hard to narow down, You pretty much have to test everything..

Ok a week ago, i dusted out my computer with a vaccum and changed the slots in which the ram were in. My computer ran fine for 2 days and started freezing again, it would freeze every single time after 5 minutes. Then i removed one of the 2gb ram cards and its been running fine for about 5 days ish. This makes me think it has something to do with my ram, i'm going to run on this single 2 gb of ram and see if it freezes or not for about a month. Its weird that just switching the slots would make it run for 2 days so im a little confused. Should i order another 2gb ram card if it doesn't freeze for a month or do you think it could have something to do with the amount of ram i have?

What is the motherboards ram max ? Did you try the one ram into both slots ? it could be the motherboards ram slot is bad, but the only way to find out is by allot of testing..It is possible that one of your ram sticks went bad..

I believe it is the ram stick.. One other thing i think is a little fishy is that my H.D.D light is always red like 99% of the time. I'm not sure if this is normal or not but I can't remember when it didn't do this..

Yea! that's not normal.. It should go off when done loading the OS...Check the wiring on the motherboard on the front panel...look for hd led and see if it is on backwards..

I switched the connector and now it doesn't work at all. not a big deal just wonder if it has something to do with why my pc freezes. Also i put in the other (bad) stick of ram and it froze after a week. Now i plugged in the other (good) ram to see if it freezes. I'm gonna let it run for a month and if it doesn't freeze then i will assume it is the ram and buy another 2GB ram stick. Think thats a good idea?
