Hello, I was wondering if anyone can help me?. I have a fairly old HP Pavillion dv6000 laptop which was working absolutely fine up until the other day when I turned it on and the screen started flickering (in BIOS/Windows/Linux live DVD) and it has done ever since. The colours on the screen are also very strange; please see the image below which shows the colours but you can't really get a feel for the flickering: I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of what might be causing the problem? The laptop is no longer within the warranty period so I want to try and fix it myself. I tried hooking the laptop up to an external monitor and the display was perfect. The only things I can think of are: 1. Faulty graphics card - if that was the case then I would have thought the external monitor display would also be faulty? 2. Faulty inverter 3. Faulty LCD ribbon cable 4. Faulty LCD Any ideas? Thank you for your help.
If it was caused by the graphics card, you'd get the same issue with an external display. If the inverter would be faulty, you wouldn't get any image on the screen. If you close and open the lid a bit, does it start to flicker? This issue is often caused by a broken ribbon cable, as it is moved every time you open and close the lid.
Thank you for your help. The flickering is constant and does not change significantly whether the lid remains open or whether it is opened and closed.
