I've got an old PC I want to hook u to my TV to use as a universal player, ie music, movies of my external hdd and dvds and eventually browse the web with it, I don't have my wifi set up properly yet so it'll be without internet for a while. The pc in question is an old one that came with Windows ME, its +-700 mhz, +-300mb ram and a 40gb hdd. I tried ubuntu but it didn't manage that at all, Chrome os was a possibility but without internet its useless. I've got xp on at the moment but its slow so I'm looking for alternatives.
XP would run on pretty good, But You need More Ram !!!!! You need to up the memory to at least 512 mb... Then You need a copy of XP lite. As for Browsers , You will need to run an older Firefox or Kmeleon, Something lite...
I would suggest you to download and install micro xp which require only 41 mb of ram and the performance of it really awesome, it's specially made for the old and slow PC so, it's best for you.
According to me, Windows XP is the best option for any old PC as it is one of the most popular and commonly used operating systems that has a variety of impressive functionalities and features. This operating system is also very user friendly and provides a better security.
