Hi i've been using a maxtor diamond max plus 8 hardrive untill it broke on me the other day . all though it was a good hard drive im thining of getting a different make like western digital or hitachi. at the moment i am using my reserve computer which has the same hard disk. i was just wondering what the forum thinks the best hard drive is???? it does't have to be out of the ones i have listed any make will do, also my motherboard supports s-ata drives. Thanks in advance Dave
Maxtor was having some issues a few years back, and I did RMA a few drives back, but they seem to have that all cleared up. However, if you don't want Maxtor anymore, I'd go with either Western Digital or Seagate. I haven't used Samsung's hard drives, but if it's like their CD burners, they should be fairly cheap but be high quality. Maxtor is the first company out the door with SATA drives featuring 16MB of cache, so that is something to consider as well. 80GB drives seem to be the sweet spot. Get anything smaller and you're really going to see less storage for the money. Going up should render you some nice deals. I don't know what you plan to store, but Hitatchi does have a 400GB drive available. Maxtor's latest top out at 300GB, but they do have the 16MB cache I spoke of earlier.
Western Digital and Seagate are both very good. Seagate have a patented liquid ball-bearing tech in their drives which makes them quiet.
Thanks for all your help its much appreciated i think ill either go 4 a seagate or a western digital ill av to av a look when i get to the shops! thanks again Dave. :good:
also you may want to consider Samsung, the drives are very quite! I think 80GB drives are around £40 but spend the extra £20 to get 200GB HD, there should be some good deals on today in the UK!
