I am running a Biostar M7NCD mobo/XP 3200+/ BFG 5900 XT OC. When running FarCry campaign (I get to play maybe 5 mins max) and my PC just restarts! But I have played in multiplayer with one other person for 20 minutes without any problems. It mainly happens when I am running power hungrey apps, but the last time I tried to post this it restarted again! My CPU is running at 31c, which should not be to warm. I am very confused and upset. What could this be?

Faulty RAM could definately be the issue. Make sure you have the timings set to speeds it can accomodate. Also download and run Memtest+, and let it complete a few full cycles on your RAM.

Other possible culprits include motherboard chipset drivers, video drivers, corrupted DirectX, bad/insufficient PSU, overheating chipsets/CPU, or maybe even a bad northbridge.

Thanks. I'll try some of that out.

Try going into Control Panel > System > Advanced > Startup & Recovery and if automatically restart is checked turn it off.

This should cause anymore failures to blue screen and give an error code rather than just reboot your system and can help drill down a bit deeper into the problem.

After the first test in 3DMark03, it gives an error saying that my video card driver "nv4_disp.dll" is not working properly. If I click anything, my PC restarts. I just got and installed my Ultra X-Connect 500W PS today, so thats not the problem, of course. Here is the specs for my video that 3DMark03 gave:

Try uninstalling your video card drivers and doing a fresh install or try a different driver revision, hopefully that should clear up the problem.

I uninstalled and reinstalled the NVIDIA drivers, but I get the same problem with 3DMark03. I really don't need to use 3DMark03 anyway, but FarCry I do. I'll be playing FarCry soon and I'll report back if I have any problems with it restarting.

I have been playing FarCry without problems. I guess for some reason 3DMark03 makes my PC go crazy and restart. If I don't run 3DMark03, I have no problems.

I know that you mentioned your temperatures were 31C, are you sure about this as from my experience of the XP 3000+ onwards range of Athlons / Bartons they are very hot.. There is the possibility that your computer is overheating and not reporting properly due to miscalibrated temperature thermometres.

I donno. How do I know or find out if my thermometres are miscalibrated? I'm using the software that came with my motherboard (Hardware Doctor 3.2) It reads the fan speeds fine (about 2500RPM). It gets up to about 37-39C after I'm done playing FarCry. My fan/heatsink are rated up to 3400+.

It could also be the fact that your graphics card is overheating. Especially of if its been overclocked.

True. I recently replaced the dinky stock cooler with the NV Silencer 3. I'm not sure if I have a way to tell the temp of the GPU, but I've read it keeps it cooler than the stock. Also, it always restarts right after the first test.

I recently replaced my PS with a more powerful Ultra X-Connect 500W. Before I had a 400W Ultra.
