half memory ?

    Went to a pc fayre before xmas , purchased some more memory sticks (pc 133) on installing them they are only coming up at half the amount it says on them ! have 1 @256 & 3 @ 64 but i can only get them to total to 255 ! any clues what i have cocked up this time around ? :confused:

    Have you tried installing them in the right order? If I recall correctly, you have to put the highest new RAM chip in the previously used one then step down the rest. Try that, it might work.

    Mix up the RAM randomly in the slots(remember which is which) and see what u get. You must remember every combination though.

    check ur motherboard and see if it can support that much RAM, as some older systems might not.

    Thanks have tried randomly shoving them into different slots & peaked out at 255 mb will try placing them in order after the lid comes off when i return from the next pc fayre ...watch with baited breath for the next cock-up to happen !

    Unless my maths is incorrect, which I doubt,

    you cannot get an odd number from adding 4 evens.

    So unless there is some bizarre method of adding RAM that doesn't apply to all other numbers, I'd say you got some faulty stuff.

    have just right clicked 'my computer' , gone to properties to check i wasn't dreaming & it says 255 mb ! :eek:
