I just built my computer with an AMD Athlon 64 3000. I have that AIDA32 utility running and it says my CPU is running at 70 degrees C. Is this a normal range for this CPU? Oh yeah, my CPU case has an LCD monitor on it, but when I hooked it up to the PSU, the next time I turned on my computer, the LCD worked, but about 5 minutes into it, my computer just power it self off. I went back in and unplugged the LCD cable and I haven't had any problems since? The LCD monitor has a "temp cable" that you are suppose to hook up somehow? It is a little flat sensor that is suppose to detect the CPU temp. However, the manual does not show you how to hook it up. --Edit-- I looked in my BIOS and the temp is only 30 degrees....I feel better now.
70C IS WAY too hot! BIOS temps are very inaccurate I have come to find. Just touch the fins of the heatsink and move down to the base, if it hurts to keep your finger there with a little pressure it's too hot.
yeh especially with an athlon.. a prescott, you could understand it. and yeh the onboard dies aren't all that accurate use your judgement, then get a better hsf
If it runs at 70C or more for too long you're gonna get some hardware damage, serious damage that could result in the need for a new mobo. A good way to monitor your mobo temp, I've found is to use Motherboard Monitor, mine is currently running at a cool 36C, not surprising seeing as I've got 5 case fans in it, as well as the 3d card fan plus the CPU heatsink/fan.
