Just got nforce4 MB and now im looking for a nice video card to put in it... I been looking at the 6800gt pcie for along time but the price is the same at the 6800 ultra apg version (450$) Any idea when the price would go down? Also would there be any other cards better than 6800 gt for 400$? I havnt been looking at the ati's cards but i hear theres a new x800 LE to compete with the 6800gt But i just checked how much they were and they are like 550$ and only had one version (asus) I cant wait forever someone help!? ps been looking on newegg and pricewatch. 400$ i got!
Check out the 6600GT PCIe GLH (Goes Like Hell) Gainward and Asus tend to be the main providers of these cards, these are standard 6600GT's with much faster clock speeds (GPU & memory) - usually bringing the clock speeds close to if not equal to the 6800GT - therefore the only difference really being the Pipelines (6800GT = 12 & 6600GT = 8). You'll pay about $50 more for the Goes Like Hell version, but its worth it if you ask me.
This round nVidia has better performance than ATi, which is where I'd put my dollar. However, if ATi has some driver improvements, you could easily see the scenario change. Again, nVidia has the edge, and is where I'd be putting my dollar. You could see price drops when the new cards sporting the next round of graphics from ATi and nVidia, but then, the 6x00's won't be the big boys in town anymore.
In no comparison is the 6600Gt weak really. I still wipes the floor with the Radeon 9800XT. If you want raw power, then get the 6800GT PCI-E.
Sure the 6600GT is way slower than the 6800GT but it's also twice as cheap. If you want to save the money and buy a forward thinking card that is roughly twice as fast as the 6600GT in some higher resolution tests go for it, but I doubt you want do that. The other route is to spend around $335 or so on a PCI-express version of the 6800 (vanilla), if your up to it you can overclock it with coolbits and unlock the extra vertex shader and 4 extra pixel pipelines bringing it reasonably close to 6800GT specs for $65 or so less. Note the PCI-express version of the 6800 (at Newegg) has 256, not 128MBs of vram so the values is pretty good. Don't go with the X800 LE, it's a good card but your wasting your money compared to what you could have. Nvidia should refresh their line this spring, if you can wait that long the price of the 6800 series will be pretty low, or the new line-up will be what your looking for.
Thanks everyone.. I went with the 6800gt BFG overclocked. for 450$ from https://www.monarchcomputer.com But im really mad cause the card hasnt come in yet.. And its the LAST PIECE I NEED FOR MY COMPUTER!! AHH.. now i need some advice. They sent it to my PO BOX using UPS.. How long do you think it will take and Can they send it to a PO BOX??
Can soemobdy please tell me which is the superior card, a pcie BFG 6600gt oc or a 128Mb Gainward PowerPack! Ultra/1960PCX 6600GT (PCI-Express) XP Golden Sample GLH sorry thats a long name but i have scoured the web to find reviews but i have non and as i am going to build a new pc soon i would really like to know... thanx
Gainward's powerpack GoldenSample cards are overclocked and guarunateed to run at their higher clocks. So it'll be the better card.
i have just read a review of the gainward and it is said to be 15% faster than most other 6600gt, it breaks my heart but im gonna have to turn down the BFG, plus i get an overclocking tool with the Gainward, i have read that the hsf is flimsy if you grab it but this can be simply avoided...i wont touch it!!! If i overclock the Gainward tho will i need more items to cool it?
