I am very dumb when it comes to this, please forgive me for my ignorance. I would like a faster processor in my computer, I currently have a 766 MHz Celeron. What is required and what kind of processor would you guys recommend. Thanks in advance.

Exactly. Depending on the motherboard you have, you could be limited to what you already have. More than likely, you should be able to put up to a 1GHz Pentium III with a 100MHz FSB in it.

Ok, I don't know if this is what you need. I have an HP Pavilion 7840. 30GB hard drive, 64 MB memory (I later put in 128 MB).

You've got the Intel 810 chipset, so you're upgrade options are on the limited side. You're limited to Socket 370 CPU's first thing. Secondly, the chipset limitations allow for a 66MHz FSB or 100MHz FSB. Lastly, it's the original i810, not the i810e, so you cannot get a Pentium III or Celeron faster than 1GHz and have it work with that system.

At most, I'd pay $50 for a faster CPU and heatsink for it.
