I just built a new PC for my little brother, with the following specs: ASUS P4p800-E Deluxe mobo Intel P4 2.8 ghz 533 bus processor DiamondMax 9 80GB SATA Hard Drive And while I was waiting on the memory to arrive, I threw in the memory from my PC (1 GB PC3200) and my CD-ROM Drive, and my Radeon 9600XT ultra 128 MB vdeo card (no onboard graphics controller on the mobo and I'm waiting on the exact same video card as well). And when I tested it out, I had the following problem: The screen shows a blue dotted line on the right hand side, then switched to a screen full of gray, white red and purple squares, then it beeps quickly twice and stays on a screen of horizontal green lines. It kinda looks like an 8-bit screen. I can't access BIOS, and I thought that two beeps was a memory problem, but the memory works fine in my other PC, as does the video card. When I try to hit Delete to enter setup, I hear the internal clicking sound of a button being held down. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Personally i don't think a 300W powersupply is nearly enough - unless its a Dell/PC Power & Cooling 300W which are incredibly powerful. Motherboards do not tend to Beep when its a PSU problem. I would make sure that you have your HSF (heatsink & fan), CPU & memory all seated properly. Make sure your memory is installed in the correct Dimm slots - if you have for example: 1x256MB & 1x512MB installed as if they were to run in Dual Channel this may cause problems. If you have multiple memory modules (2 or more) test them 1 at a time in Dimm#1 (the memory slot closest your CPU). Make sure you have both the ATX 20Pin & 4Pin powersupply connections connected to the motherboard. Now reset your CMOS. Now try booting with your Intergrated graphics card then whether successful or not try and boot with your 9600XT - if one of them works you know where the problem lies. Post back. You may have a damaged CPU.
chek out all d above stuff but b sure to just chek the basic stuff.i also thk ur psu is not appropriate. jst make sure to chek all cables,i think when theres 2beeps then its either a keyboard / mouse problem.i had it once in my pc..n try n start ur pc without the video card..
Jay regarding the PowerSupply - I have 3xPentium4 3.0GHz 800MHz FSB 1MB Cache / intergrated graphics / 2x256MB Dual Channel / Maxtor 20GB HDD / 2xOptical Drives all running on 1x210W powersupply each. And i could run that computer with 2xSATA drives / 1xfloppy drive / ATI X600SE and all 4 memory slots filled without any problems. It's not the Wattage its the Amerpage But these are Dell Machines (PC Power & Cooling) My 210W has the Amperage of a 350W Antec Powersupply.
I'm definitely in agreement about the power supply. As already noted, it's the amperage that counts, not the wattage. They seem to use fuzzy math to get certain wattages on power supplies and/or that wattage only applies when certain conditions are met, i.e. within a certain temperature range. The other thing seems to be that it could be the motherboard doesn't favor the memory you put in there or isn't fully seated. Also check that the video card is properly seated as well, and try some other video card (doesn't need to be anything major, any old PCI video card should work fine).
Here's an update everyone. I just switched out the CPU with a CPU i'm sure is working. Same thing happened. I'm sure the memory is comptable - it's in the lsit in the mobo's guide. The video card should be compatable and it works in another machine. My Power Supply is an Antec 300W (max 30A). So I think I've narrowed it down to either that (but I don't think I would get anything at all if there wasn't enough power) or just a bad mobo. Anyone have any other ideas? Thank you guys so much for your great suggestions.
That board is a DUAL channel memory, did you put the memory in the corresponding channels? blue or black, not mixed.
