Well, I've begun all my major upgrading by ordering most of my bits today ... yay! I've already got me an Antec Sonata case with my 'old' stuff in it. I'm hoping to have a quiet gaming PC ... hence, it'll be unlikely I'll be overclocking ... much! lol This is what it's gonna include:

    The already mentioned Antec Sonata
DFI LANParty UT NF4 Ultra-D mummyboard
AMD Athlon 64 3200 CPU (already bought retail box for £100 at a computer fair ... brand new, sealed and it even smells nice! LOL :D )
Sapphire ATi Radeon X800 XL 256MB graphic card
Geil value dual channel 1GB (2x512 modules) PC3200 memory

I'm keeping my current 80GB HDD but it may be on the way to the graveyard so may be replaced with a 160GB SATA drive. I'm also keeping the Sonata's 380 Watt PSU because after a little research, it may just be enough power to keep it going with no or little overclocking but if not, I'll just fork out for a Tagen 480 Watt unit ... my poor credit card!

This system better kick much ass or I may have to hang myself ... well, maybe not but it better!

i think that the 6600GT wud be awesome on sli, they released scores and in many points it beats the 6800ULTRA now compare 600$ to 332$ (XFX thats what im gettin) on sli and notice that graphics in games won't improve much drasticly in the next two years, but i think somethin better than a 6800 ultra will last u a good 3-4 years on an endless fraggin spree.

It beats the ultra? Hmmm, you're probably right but I read that 2 GT's are about as good as one 6800GT, could be wrong. A good friend of mine still uses his GeForce 4MX to play Doom 3 and all that so it's surprising how long you can make a card last.

Currently, pretty much, unless you want to play D3 @ 1600x1200 on Ultra settings. And thanks ninja!

just got my new parts for my PC, everyone is upgrading to AMD but for me im still sticking with P4.... here are my specs now.

    P4 3.4Ghz socket 775
    Asus P5AD2 Premium Motherboard
(4x) 512mb Corsair XMS (2 of these are from my old PC)
Asus EN6600GT128Mb Graphics Card (it comes with Doom 3 :good: )
Seagate 80GB 8MB SATA HDD( from old PC )
Maxtor 160GB 8MB 7200RPM SATA HDD ( from old PC)
    Maxtor 200GB 8MB 7200RPM SATA HDD
DVD-rw drive and CDRW combo drive
    Thermaltake Shark Casing
TAGAN 380W PSU ( i know its stupid but its from my old PC,
but guess what its working well... i completely forgot
that the mobo i bought has 24 pin power socket, so i
just tried my 20 piinner PSU. It worked.... now im just
being lazy to buy a new one. )

Can someone also suggest a nice cooling for 775 im just using the intel bundled fan.

One thing I do suggest if you're a HD junky is to get the 73 gig SATA raptor. This is the fastest drive on earth today.

For my space eater drive I use a 250G Sata Deskstar (7200 RPM 8 Meg cache).

IMO the 6600 GT offers the most bang for the buck in a video card today. In certain games Dual 6600 GT WILL outperform a 6800U. True some games/apps don't take advantage of SLI and that's when the single expensive card will win.

If you're looking for an awesome heatsink I would suggest one of the thermalright models with the heat pipes and all copper construction. It's gonna be heavy but you cannot beat the cooling power without going to exotic water cooling solutions... or if you really want to drop the big bucks phase change technology.

BTW I DO plan on playing in ultra settings. :) I would be putting my horsepower to waste otherwise! LOL.

Gonna have lotsa fun OCing with the Lanparty board too. The CMOS reloaded feature is something I am really looking forward too. I will post pictures of the system later.

nahhh im not a HD junky its just that almost all my HDs are from my old pc, and i just got the new one for free from the shop where i bought the stuffs..... i might be able to use all those HDs because im planning of putting up a web hosting/domain reseller business.

tnx for the suggestion for that Raptor, :good:

Looks like my old Asus A7V is on it's way out. I picked up an MSI KM4AM-V. Of course, I just sold my A7N8X-E a few days ago... Oh well. I don't need any add-in cards with this having on-board video and LAN.

If you bring SCSI into the mix, you can get the Seagate Cheetahs at 15,000RPM. ;), but yeah, for ATA, you can't beat the Raptors.

I doubt this will even follow through knowing my parents but I'd really like to upgrade to the following:
    OCz DDR500 2-2-2-8 2x512MB
DFI LanParty UT SLI or something similar (needs to support high voltage and oc well)
    3500 Venice
X800XL hopfully (not much more expensive than the Pro)
    SAMSUNG 990DF-Black 19" CRT
It's sort of a chain reaction for needing all this stuff, I really like that ram but my mobo won't support it (and I'm gradually starting to dislike my mobo...) so I need a new mobo obviously. So if I'm getting a new mobo it should really be PCIe, might as well be SLI. Well my gfx card is AGP, better upgrade that too. And while I'm at it I think a cpu upgrade is in order too if I can afford it as the 3500 Venice can oc to 3.0Ghz if you've go the cooling:cool: And concidering that I have a dying 15" CRT I'd say I'd better get that Samsung quick.
Just thought I'd let ya'll know.

How much $$$ have you got?! Or is your parents paying for it. If you're paying then they can't really say anything because its your money.
I've still got to pull that faulty screw out of my case which has physically fixed my mobo to the case and get a new mobo to just get graphics working.

I'm paying for it, hopefully I'll have about $1000 to work with by the time I need it. Oh yeah I'll need a new PSU as well, anyone know any good ones for less than $100?

Well by the end of the year I'm looking to have:
    AMD Athlon 3800+ or a 4000+
X850XT/XTPE or whatever the new ATI boards are
New BenQ DVD Burner (Cheaping out on that part)
    Logitech Z-5300e speakers

I already have a pretty good motherboard, may upgrade it then too, but probably not. At this point I have a pretty good box and I'm turning it into a pretty good rig (getting good mouse, speakers, ditching integrated sound, DVD/CD burner).

http://www.xpcgear.com/coolgianteg4.html - Pretty good PSU that won't blow the bank. Probably cheaper at Newegg but I was at that website when I read your post so I put that one up.
