First off, make sure that al connections are properly seated, as wel as the CPU HSF. A generic PSU could be the problem, even with 550W, as its amperage that matters, not just wattage. What brand PSU are you using? Also check your RAM is seated properly.
hi the ram is in properly and the power unit is some cheap crap called cools it or something i asked for a Q-tec there not mint either but better but i got this banger you think maybe it could be the cheap psu???
There's a possibility that its your PSU. But I'd also check that your jumpers have been set correctly, refer to your manual. You can also reset the CMOS.
No i highly suspect that its your powersupply, without seeming offensive, Q-tec are bloody rubbish powersupplies. You can buy a Q-tec 600W for £30 including vat. A Good 450W PSU should cost you around £55-£75
The reason Qtec are so cheap is because their powersupplies will provide a MAXIMUM of 450W, but as soon as your computer requires that it will kill your computer / turn it off or you'll start to have problems, or worse - damage your hardware. Basically its not Wattage (eg: 450W) its the Amperage, on the side of every powersupply theirs a white label which shows you something like this: +5V xxA +12V xxA -5V xxA -12V xxA +3.3V xxA -3.3V xxA basically you can buy a 700W Qtec powersupply and it wont provide any more power than a 300-350W good powersupply. Its the most important peice of hardware in your computer, without it it wont run, and if it doesnt provide enough power it WILL damage your other components.
could any body recommend a power supply which has anougth power to run my rig at a reasonable price please? but i only have about £50 or is this not anuff?
Good find Afidelino, i too recommend this powersupply, you really should be running a high quality powersupply of 400W or more, preferably 440-480W (would also allow for a good amount of upgrades). The thermaltake ranges are excellent, i build all my computers with ThermalTake powersupplies, they are Silent, Incredible Value for money, and VERY VERY high quality.
thnx im buying another pc now and i will get that psu as this pc doing my head in im going back to DDR and AGP never had trouble there going to get a Asus or a DFI lan Party 1GB of GeIL PC3200 Golden Value or 512mb Kingston Hyper X and a Ati X800Xl and sticking with same things i have thnx for your help
