basically i am soon getting a new pc. with 2mb cable. i only play half-life at the moment, i have a: amd duron 800 256mb sd ram 133 15gb 5200rpm 40gb 7200rpm cd-rw 16x dvd-rom 17" AOC monitor refresh m8 is 85hertz i have an old tnt2 32mb m64 pro win98se all i do it play Half-life and HL mods online, but i get a f**ing FPS rate of like 30 max - if i tweak ingame settings. this is very laggy playing on big servers, now i know i should get new grphx card but i cant b arsed i am getting new pc soon so there aint no point, but for the mean while is there any way i can speed up my dreadful fps? my m8s with same card get 50 - 60fps. with same machines..
Is it laggy only with online games, or all around? Try it in single player mode if ya haven't already. If it's all around, you might try lowering the resolution some and the color depth as well. Trying different drivers may also alleviate some issues, as the latest drivers for your motherboard. I don't really do any online gaming, so I'm a little bit short on answers if your problem is online.
well its just generally.. i get a shit fps.. i only play 1 game, HL:Counter-Strike in single player if i create a LAN game, i get 0 ping but still get shityt fps: of: 30 max if i play even with bots (practice plays on a LAN -me and my pc) i still get lag when there r big gun scenes its very odd. anywayz naf fps FFS! GRrrrrrRRr will try updating mother board drivers.
What API are you trying to run the game in? There seem to be quite a few problems with TNT 2 cards and CS running in D3D mode, running software mode or OpenGL seem to take care of any slow fps issues.
this is how the different api's workout (online + ingame):- Software - cant c anything, fps around 9 whilst shooting very laggy. OpenGL - grphx r fine, very nice, smooth till i start shooting, lag appears ( not my ping/latency that is lagging) my fps goes down to about 14fps, VERY LAGGY, gaming seems to turn into a powerpoint presentation. D3D - aint tried it, aint any point, cos if i use it, i move the mouse and then 3 seconds later the mouse moves and goes all over the place like its possesed, i am sure D3D would b a better option, but the mouse goes f*cked. all over place. - any ideas or fixes, i know the TNT2 32mb m64 pro supports D3D and opengl (mainly opengl) but ingame it goes so weird... mouse goes everywhere, mouse is never accurate, seems to be possesed.
Hmm have no idea, you might want to try getting hold of Sierra tech support, since I know my brother has no problems playing on my old Thinkpad which is only a P3 550 and an S3 Savage video card. With your system it should easily be able to run it, and the only problem I saw for people with TNT cards was D3D was choppy but OpenGL seemed to fix it for everyone. I'd try grabbing the latest detonator drivers from nvidia, and the latest OpenGL and if that doesn't solve the problem I'm not sure exactly what it could be.
Just after I posted I noticed this: Might have to downgrade rather than upgrade your drivers if your using Detonator 3 drivers.
when I had my voodoo 2 12mb on this system I would get 60fps(constant) on 800x600 16bit(also on cs) u really shud get higher wich resolution are you running and have you tried going to customize settings and put all at lowest settings(smoke decals and more) ? my m8 with p600 tnt 2 gets atleast 50fps on 800x600 be sure u got the lastest dets it does really make a diference
