I have a winfast a350 - fx 5900 ultra tdh card and have just bought a new computer to put it in. The new PC has a motherboard that specifies no 3.3v agp video cards (didnt know this when i purchased!). The computers powers down regularly after a few mins so now I'm guessing my video card is 3.3v? Cant find any info on the card or get a response from leadtech (manufacturer). Anyone help??

    Cheers,

    mark.

Nope. 3.3V is pretty old. The 5900's operate on an AGP 4x/8x standard and can run with 1.5V or 0.8V natively.

What are your system specs, including the power supply and the CPU temps.

Thanks for the replies. Here are the rest of my details. Apart from the video card all I have is a single HD and CD player. The parts are fairly cheap.

    GP-400ATX 12V p4 400W power supply
    ASROCK K8Upgrade - 760GX motherboard
    AMD SEMPRON 3100+ cpu

    Temps: taken after shutdown:
    CPU TEMP: 34 C
    MB TEMP 29 C

The unit does stay on for a while sometimes but powers down pretty quickly if I run anything that uses the video card (games). A test today had the unit powering down after about 2 mins with a game running. I removed the card (and used the on-board video) and the unit did not shut down at all - left running for about an hour.

    Thanks in advance.

update: just powered down again while running a game (with FX 5900). Same story (2 mins) - CPU temp now reads 37.

One thing I noticed however was that running the game caused a change in the powersupply noise. It got slightly louder. Maybe too much being sucked from the power supply???

    512mb ram.

I tried a KYRO2 (3D prophet) 64mb AGP which didn't work. But I have had problems with this card on other machines.

I also tried a GEFORCE 3 card (elsa gladiac 920) which ran fine (I left a game running for around 3/4 hour without problems).

So I'm guessing this is either a power problem or the board and video card are just not getting along.

I've got a good feeling thats it your PSU. I had a similar problem and replaced the PSU and it was fine. Using onboard video doesn't use as much power as a normal card so that would explain. When the PSU is being pushed, it usually shuts down like that.
Edit: put cPU intead of PSU.

i agree with addis, it might be that other applications draw morepower from the PSU so the vid card is provided with less power

u said when u play games the power supply unit starts to sound louder, therefore i also agree with Addis that it might well be a PSU problem..try to test using a different PSU...
