Not that I am going to buy one, but just asking. I always thought that the picture quality of LCD was better than a CRT. However, will roaming around on the net if found this in a Q&A section:

"Q: Is an LCD monitor better than a CRT?

As far as image quality is concerned, no. An expensive CRT will give you a far better picture than any LCD can. What it really comes down to is how much space you have to fit your monitor in and the fact a 17" LCD has a bigger display area than a 17" CRT."

    Is this correct?

not bigger display area. 17" is 17" no matter how hard you try and make it otherwise. Resolution may differ though.

CRT's have a better image quality, even cheap ones compared to LCD's.

Yes it said that CRT quality is better than LCD. CRT offers unlimited viewing angles while the LCD doesn’t, it can display allot more colours and offer better video motion performance since the LCD suffers from ghosting.

oh, I remember we have a LCD faq which you you might be interested in here http://www.zone365.com/content/10/102/1

actually some LCDs are in some terms better, but CRTs get bigger but fatter.

CRTs have more color band (as sniper said)

LCDs are small, take up lil space, and some even beat grayscale speed (4ms)

but i'd go with a crt, a G90fb viewsonic is amazing

If this is the case, then why LCDs so expensive? Only because of their compact size and looks.

Exactly. Also, LCD manufacturers are expected to double LCD prices over the summer!

crazy. No way am I buying one. Actually I can't spare my monitor. I use it as my personal notepad. I have serial numbers, telephone numbers, names, messages, stickers, on my monitor :) I don't mind lugging it around, I know it will hold together.

LCD's can also (sometimes) produce a slightly sharper image than the average (.25mm dot pitch) CRT. But if you look at the prices of a 17" LCD and a 19" CRT the CRT is easily cheaper, has more gaming potential, can support more resolutions and easily switch between them with no distortion, give you greater color accuracy (with those blacks), you can actually touch the screen, it'll be durable, and you still get 18" of viewable area compaired to the 17" of the LCD. A win win situation if you opt for a CRT and space isn't a prob.
    The ultimate CRT

Good, I want to get it this summer, can't wait to add 5" of viewable screen to my life (I will then drive over my 13" "monitor").

For pixel responce time yeah, usually 16 though I've seen as high as 30 and as low as 4, it just depends on the brand, build quality, date manufactured, and price.
