i am having a problem with my video card. I got my Diamond 9600se a few months ago. It had been working untill now. Wheneve I play a game for more than 3 or 4 minutes the computer will restart. It wont shut down it will just go to the start up screen with the ram and stuff right away. I installed new chipset drivers for my motherboard and unplugged and plugged in the video card and have the right size power supply. What do I do? Would it be the video drivers? I dont know where the latest Diamond drivers are. Any help will be appreciated
not warm. . . .it wouldnt be heat because i can have the computer on for a long time. . . its only when i play a 3d game
I would reinstall directx and as for the video card drivers, unless im misunderstanding... Diamond makes the card, but it is a Radeon card, right? If so, just go to radeon's website or just get the omega drivers Hope this helps.
I have only been doing this with on or two games. . . . So far I have unplugged and replugged. . .new chipset drivers. . . new video card drivers(catalyst5.5) reinstalled direct x. I have tried new games and it seems to be working. The games that it did not work for are: Star Wars: Jedi Academy, Starwars Starfighter and Stepmania. It could be the games but the restarts still dont make sense. Thank you.
I also had some stability problems with Jedi Academy. Personally I was pushed into thinking it was the CPU or GPU overheating.
When you say it's not warm are you checking the heat in ATI's control panel or feeling it as it's a little decieving. Diamond's cards may not have the greatest heatsink/fans of all time and jedi academy does strain the VPU a lot. It's very unlikely but if in the ATI control panel the overheat warning is set at a vey low temp. then that may be a problem in itself. Also, you didn't overclock it by chance did you?
To stop overheating either drop all overclocks and/or get a better cooler, especially if you're using a stock CPU cooler.
