Hi guys, i just bought a ati radeon 9800xt 128mb vram yesterday. However, it has not been performing well during benchmarking tests fo 3d mark and aqua mark. Here are my system stats:

    2.8ghz p4 ht tech
    512mb 333 ram
    the radeon
    80gb sata hd
    sound blaster audigy 2zs

i did badly for the 3dmark03 test, got a score of 3.6k even my previous 96xt did better with a score of 4.2k. according to the results, another system with the following specs got a 6k score.

    his specs are
    2.8ghz p4 ht
    1024md ram
    98xt 128mb
    sigtma audio

can someone tell me wad's wrong with my system or card, or does it just need some seasoning...

    desperate gamer
    many thx

    There's definitely something wrong.

To uninstall your drivers, you can use drivercleaner, which is better than to just uninstall them from the control panel. The instructions on how to use it are in a readme file.

Also, make sure your chipset drivers are installed. Lastly, try different drivers, including omega drivers to see which perform better.

By the way guys, just to show you what i mean.

Operating System Microsoft Windows XP Microsoft Windows XP
    DirectX Version 9.0c 9.0c
Mobo Manufacturer ASUSTeK Computer INC. ASUSTeK Computer Inc.
    Mobo Model Yale P5P800
    AGP Rates (Current/Available) 8x / 4x, 8x 8x / 4x, 8x
CPU Intel Pentium 4 2800 MHz Intel Pentium 4 4501 MHz
    FSB 200 MHz 250 MHz
    Memory 512 MB 512 MB

    Display Information
Graphics Chipset ATI RADEON 9800 XT ATI RADEON 9800 XT
Driver Name RADEON 9800 XT RADEON 9800 XT
    Driver Version 6.14.10.6497 6.14.10.6490
Driver Status WHQL - FM Approved WHQL - FM Approved
Video Memory 128 MB 128 MB
Core Clock 432 MHz 501 MHz
Memory Clock 378 MHz 401 MHz

Only his processor and clock speeds are better than mine.

Being that his specifications are better than me by a little(ok not that little say resonable amount) he can't possibly score twice of me. He got 9000 3d mark score while i got 4000 only.

And 9800xts have a overdrive feature. I'm sure you guys know about it. However, should i use it and disable my manual overclocking or should i use both, or use manual overclocking and disable it.

    Many thanks.

One thing that I'm thinking is that your CPU is overclocked. I know the P4 will automatically throttle itself down if it gets too hot. I'm wondering if that's what's happening here.

Well, actually, it is not overclocked. Here's how it goes, this computer, was actually one that was bought from HP. However my hard disk crashed and they did not give me recovery disks, instead there was a recovery partition (which i lost too in the crash). So i bought a new hard disk and OS. Somewhat, my PC became a D.I.Y. computer but with certain limitations. The BIOS and CPU are locked. So i can't overclock anything. ;)

Well, going by the info you posted, it looked like that, or something is being mis-reported.

Anyway guys, my new 3DMark03 score is now up to 6.7k not 3.6k anymore!! :) I'm not sure what happened, but i used AtiTool instead of rivatuner, and when I ran the test I got a better score. However, I still do not know what Catalyst A.I. is and its uses! Can someone fill me in on this?

    Happy gamer
    Thanks
