I am currently constructing my first computer and have bought a 6800gt video card. In the future I will want to buy another of these and run them in sli mode but am unsure about how well the power supplies will cope with this. I have a 550 p4 processor and an asus p5nd2 deluxe motherboard.

I was thinking of buying a thermaltake butterfly psu for 50 POUNDS will this work? I was interested in the thermaltake modualr power supplys but their not avaliable in the U.K. yet.

    Thanks for any help.

For the money, I'm not all that gung-ho about modular PSU's. However, for the price, the Amperages on the 550W ThermalTake modular PSU happen to be rather nice. I'm not sure about the butterfly units, but they might be okay. Just make sure you have around 25A on the 12V rail, or through a combination of 12V rails...this stuff is explained in the link above.

You also might check out the Tagan 480W unit as well as 460W-500W Enermax units as well.

As for SLI, there are only 4 PSU's certified for SLI by nVidia. The whole SLI-certified list is over here.

This probably seems like a stupid question but how can I find out about the ampage on each rail? no website that Ive been on tells me, at least none that I can find, for the thermal take butterfly for example because I can afford that. possibly thinking of the tagan instead now 480w like suggested.
    Can anybody help please?
