I have an ECS KT600-A mother board. Im having probs with connecting a SATA drive, and need to flash an updated (Award) BIOS but its not working! The error message i recieve is "Unknown flash type". The jumpers are set okay, and there is no other protection in BIOS. Having been told that this is due to the Flash Utility, i have used all the variations of the Award utility, and still no luck. I've even tried flashing the board with its own bios version (backup copy), with no luck! So what could the problem be???!!!
Verify you have the correct BIOS for the motherboard and check if you need a specific version of the flash utility. Download the BIOS again in case it happened to be corrupted.
i'm not sure if this will help or has anything to do with it but when my computer wont recognise my hard drive (usually after it has crashed) i have to reset my bios to search for P-ATA and S-ATA, other wise it only looks for my cd/dvd rw drives...try that as i have an award bios on a different motherboard, could help, could be totally un-related...i dont know
Right, the manual says, in a a few more words, "check jumpers, check bios protection, go to website, download stuff, flash bios..." So i made a boot disk, used every bloody utility available, and various updates... (downloaded on multiple occassions...) and guess what? nothing! come on guys, give us a hand here!!!
which version are you using from http://www.ecsusa.com/downloads/kt600-a.html ? If you are using the latest, try a a different one to see if it works. also before doing the update try clearing DMI Data Pool, Reset ESCD and Reset Configuration Data in BIOS. if it does't work! its most likely that theres problem with the BIOS chip itself.
what does ESCD mean... forgive my ignorance! ill give that a try. should i clear CMOS with the jumpers?
