I've got a Presscott 2.8 p4 and i've got the stock heatsink, and i dont overclock, but my case itself gets up to 48C. i am quite worried. another thing. How in this world do i remove the heatsink/fan i damaged my thumbs attempting it. and yet another thing. What replacement heatsink would be a best to lower my temps to 30c idle. since it runs at 44 c idle. thanks for your help, ziploc :good:
The prescotts run hot, which whilst not good, can't be helped with that chip. I for one had a 2.8 prescott running at around 60 degrees underload. You could purchase a higher quality HSF, but 48 degrees is fine, obviously cooler is better, but nothing to worry about.
thanks good to know that. well the problem i had is i have a Nvidia 5700 LE (which i will upgrade as soon as i have 60 bucks. ) well the heat from the case was causing my card to overheat in Half-Life 2, it was begging to show artifacts so i removed my case cover and it doesnt do that anymore. I feel more releaved for my proccy now though. Thank you.
I have a cheap MGE case. Aluminum. with 2 80mm fans blowing in from the back and one 80 mm fan suckig out on the side.
Make the one on the side blow in. That's how its supposed to be. That way cold air comes in at the bottom and rise to the top where it is blown out.
I had it like that before with the one on the side blowing in, and the two on the back blowing out. I actually had higher temperature.
I know a Prescott runs hot but at 44c for idle is still high, any decent heatsink from akasa or thermaltake will cool it. Also get some Artic Silver paste.
