im kind of low on $$$ and the only thing i can afford is the Geforce 6600GT or Ati's X700 which one is better?
Is it the plain jane X700 or a X700 Pro? If it's the regular X700 than the 6600GT is a good bit faster.
6600GT: Core clock-----500MHz PixelPipelines-----8 Memory Clock-----1000MHz Memory Size-----128MB Memory Interface -----128-bit Memory Type-----GDDR3 DirectX-----DirectX 9 OpenGL-----OpenGL 1.5/2.0 [depending on the model] Interface-----AGP 4X/8X or PCI-Express RAMDAC 400 MHz Max Resolution 2048x1536@85Hz ------------------------------------------- X700: Core clock-----400MHz PixelPipelines-----8 Memory Clock-----700MHz Memory Size-----128/256MB [depending on model] Memory Interface-----128-bit Memory Type-----DDR DirectX-----DirectX 9 OpenGL-----OpenGL 2.0 Interface-----PCI Express x16 RAMDAC-----400 MHz Max Resolution-----2048x1536@85Hz ------------------------------------------- X700 Pro: Core clock-----425MHz PixelPipelines-----8 Memory Clock-----860MHz Memory Size-----128/256MB [depending on model] Memory Interface-----128-bit Memory Type-----GDDR3 DirectX-----DirectX 9 OpenGL-----OpenGL 1.5/2.0 Interface-----PCI Express x16 RAMDAC-----400 MHz Max Resolution-----2048x1536@85Hz So the 6600GT has more going for it, especially as it is available in both AGP and PCIe. The only downside is it's almost exclusively available with only 128MB's or vram, though it's usually enough. If you really want my opinion I'd say get yourself a X800 as it's not much more but will outperfom the lot by a good margin (more memory, pipelines, and 256-bit memory interface)
still higher clock speeds and better 3Dmark scores prove its better for most gaming, i think it only contains lower performance for HL2. its also a very overclockable card, so 6600GT in my opinion. If you get an eVGA model 6600GT, it has an opengl 2.0 version
where can i find the eVGA model? and how much is it? and i dont wanna shop online because im not very good at waiting, so give me a store near maplewood
haha, i wouldn't advise really buying at stores, these higher rated vid cards are extremely overpriced ( i saw prices 80-120$ excessed), im taking you live in the US, you can just save alot of money, its worth the wait man, or instead of paying over a 100 more just get next day shipping for 30$ or so if you can't wait that much haha just be sure to buy from a good store :good: for the agp model, http://www.pricegrabber.com/search_getprod.php/masterid=5510107 for the pcex16 model, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130214&ATT=Video+Cards&CMP=OTC-pr1c3grabb3r
Excellent advice zRock. In this case the 6600GT is definately the clear winner, but if you can afford the X800 it will trounce all of them. But just out of curiosity, do you have AGP or PCIE?
What games run smooth with the 6600GT? and also BFG has an OC version of the 6600GT should i get that one instead?
the bfg is the best buy from pcworld, its overclocked awesome, and over that it still overclocks amazingly. but i'd get a normal one, eVGA
Yea, the BFG cards are great but quite expensive. Get and eVGA, after all, they gave me a free keychain.
Don't bother with BFG as you can do the same thing without paying like $50 exta, like they said eVGA is the way to go, or any card with OpenGL2.0. What? you got 2 helpful points for saying we were in a point war Z? Do I smell betrail
