I was playing counter-strike 2 days ago, when my computer for some reason just shut down. I thought there was a power surge, but all other electronics in the house were fine. I tried booting up my pc again, but no no prevail. Not even the fans would start up. The odd thing was, all my LED lights were still on. I replaced my power supply with a less powerful one just to test it, and everything turned on....but my video card started smoking so I shut that off quickly. So I'm wondering what exact part is fried, power supply or video card. I have a feeling it might be both, and if that's the case, I might as well buy a new machine. Any ideas?
the older PSU probably fried out completely, the new one isnt powerful enough to power your computer, I recommend you try to get a stronger PSU from someone else you know and try it out, then everything should work, if so, then buy one that has the appropriate wattages, wat are your sys. specs?
And specs: 2.8ghz pentium 4 (prescott, ninjafetus makes fun of me every time he uses my pc) Radeon 9800pro 512mb ddr ram 400W power supply (my pc is being a pain in the ass and won't open so I can't check company.
Well if you're video card started smoking I would imagine that it's dead as well, burning silicon can't be good.
Well, I got an Ultra 500W power supply, plugged it in, and everything works...except for my video card. bah.
