I have a disconnected laptop harddrive with hundreds of recording hours that I need to transfer to my desktop. The recording software is the same on both.
    Can I transfer directly?

Possibly, if you can get a small adapter that let's a notebook hard drive be connected to a standard IDE cable, you can just use explorer in windows to search through and copy the wanted files onto your desktop computer's hard drive.
