I just purchased StarWars Knights of the Old republic (1) at Walmart today and after 30 minutes and -4GB's later I began playing. The learning curve seemed pretty big as I'm not used to RPGs really but I created my character and picked random skills and powers anyway. Once the game started I was very overwhelmed, there were so many little icons floating around it seemed a little excessive. The control scheme seemed terrible, targeting opponents wasn't the most natural process and fighting them was a very boring ordeal for the most part. But the bottom line was I wasn't having even the least bit of fun. Switching between characters was awkward and tedious and there was just way to much micromanaging to do. In all fairness I'm not only new to RPG's but I'm at the very beginning of the game, I'll give it more of a chance but having it randomly crash just before the next level loaded didn't help out this games appeal any. So what I'm asking is does this game really pick up and become natural and awesome or do I spend the whole time running around with a bunch of guys with little skills like opening doors ( :x: ) that I have to use all the time. I'd like to see some vehicle interaction and all but somehow I'm doubting if I'll be zooming around on a speeder bike anytime soon. Thanks for the feedback.
The game does get alot better once you get off taris, which i found to the worst part of the game(although it was still fun) and i can understand your confusion with the game it was my first rpg i ever played and it took me a while to get used to it, and really get in to the story. And some people just dont like the combat, but you might get used to it. I personally didnt mind it that much althouhg i do like real time better. As for the speeder bike thing you do get to do these speeder bike minigame in various parts of the game, you can probably find some videos of them on the internet.
Well that gives me a bit of an incentive to continue but I'm still thinking it's a wee bit overrated. Thanks guys
It's cool when you get your force powers and lightsaber. I use Dual red lightsabers at the moment and I'm pretty much unstoppable.
If you have an xbox i would suggerst getting it on that because you might like the controls better, thats what i played it on and i picked up the controls pretty fast, and it felt really smooth
Yeah a controller does seem to make more sense in this case, but no consoles reside in my house, I'm a very deprived child.
