Okay my aunt gave me her old...(ancient) PC, it's got: Pentium I 233MHz CPU 32MB RAM (god knows what slow speed) 4GB HDD Windows 98SE (surprised even that runs on this) CD-Rom and Floppy Drive Any ideas on what I could do with it? Hardware firewall is out of the question as I dont want to leave it on all the time and might be getting wireless router soon, if no-one has any ideas then I can give it to my nan (she just likes playing solitare!) I may be building her a new computer soon unless she gets abducted/attack by the factory built monster. I'll be posting on here about that as well if I do build her a new one.
You could stick Linux on it quite happily...I'm sure AT will be able to give you a copious amount of advice on that route .
Could do, but dont really need to, I've got linux on this machine, plus it's loud and slow....very very slow. (its loud because of the PSU, the CPU is so old its passively cooled by a tiny heatsink!)
Hmmmm. well i was going to suggest a Firewall PC but thats already been explained, oh well! Actually you could install linux on it and use it as a tester OS, learn how to install packages/RPS's etc.. and if you stuff it up it won't matter!
linux should be able to run pretty good on that, there are a few distro's that can run on baby pc's just fune. I don't know many so AT will hook you up.
You could always try a completely different, non-*nix-based OS, like BeOS or SkyOS. Might even give Darwin a shot, although that's the Apple-ized FreeBSD (a *nix OS).
I might do but at the minute I don't think I'm going to have space for it so I may have to give it to my nan...unless i can find space/a decent space worthy use for it.
