Okay, I'm thinkinh of getting some new RAM, its some GeIL 1GB PC3200 Value (2x512MB) off of www.overclockers.co.uk
I currently have 2x256MB kingston PC2700 Value Ram, I was looking and i can get another 512MB of my RAM for about £35-40 (another 2x256MB sticks)
Currently my RAM is running at like 320MHz instead of 333MHz as the FSB of my CPU limits the RAM speed and i can't change the ratio :eek:hah:
Do you reckon it would be better to get the GeIL RAM or just get another 512MB of my current stuff?
(note I'm not bothered with the fact that all my slots will be filled, I have no intention of putting more than 1GB in for a long time...)

After reading the Motherboard manual I think I need a CPU with a FSB of 800MHz to use DDR400 RAM, should I just get the same RAM as I have then, as DDR400 wont work as I can't get my FSB up that high.
I've been frantically trying to find a way to get the RAM speed to run independantly of the CPU FSB but I can't :eek:hah: so it looks like to get even DDR333 RAM my FSB needs to be at 125MHz which would make my CPU run at 3.25GHz, you think the Overclock would be worth it? I've tried it before but it just locks up, should I up the voltage to the CPU?
    Many Thanks
    Matt
(Damn I would love some decent RAM, but my Celery just isn't up to it :()

hmmm, it would depend if you want to overclock really, I mean better ram won't help you overclock any further if you keep the current ram, so i'd stick to the same ram.

Try higher voltage to see if it helps, I know it helped me o/c my 2500 xp mobile to 2500mhz.

Might do, I think i will stick to the current stuff, might just get a whole new 1GB of it (2 x 512) as its not even running full speed so having the DDR400 wont be much use will it? I was thinking of getting the same RAM as my current RAM, same model number etc, will it still work dual channel?

Good plan, PC2700 is cheap and low in latency anyway. And 2 512 sticks will run nicely in dual-channel assuming you have then in the correct slots.

yeah, i think i'll just go with the stuff i've got but in a new 1GB (2 x 512MB) set,

Okay make my mine up time again...I'm really not sure...
    A whole new 1GB

Another 512MB of the same stuff I have now

I would prefer to get the 512MB of what I have now, I have no need for more than 1GB and I'm not bothered about filling all the memory slots, I personally think the 512MB Kit would be better what do you think?
I have been looking on www.overclockers.co.uk and they only sell a few variations of PC2700 DDR333 RAM, I want it to match my current RAM for better stability...
I would buy DDR266 (bleh...) but I've overclocked my CPU to get more speed out of the RAM as the FSB limits the RAM speed so that's why I'm sticking with DDR333...

I'm actually surprised you got a good OC out of that stuff. While not bad by any means it's still buget select type stuff. Either way there's no point in getting another gig if you can just buy 512MB's for cheap.

well it was DDR333 RAM running at DDR266 so would that make a difference?
Yeah I think i'll go for the 512MB...

You run it at whatever speed you want but I wouldn't buy 266 because the OC potential is very limeted. Stick with the 512 333.

Any time mate, I'm very guilty of changing my mind numerous times before finally deciding on something I can stick to.
